For Our Patients - Neurotoxin

  • To ensure the best possible results and minimize any potential complications, please follow these guidelines before your neurotoxin appointment:

    4 Weeks Prior to Treatment

    • Plan Ahead: If this is your first time receiving a neurotoxin treatment, it is recommended to schedule your appointment at least 1 month prior to any special events. This will give your provider time to tailor the treatment specifically to your needs.

    1 Week Before Treatment

    • Avoid Anti-Inflammatory Medications:
Discontinue use of any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, or Aleve. These can increase the risk of bruising.

    • Avoid Blood Thinners & Supplements:
Stop taking supplements like Vitamin E, Fish Oil, St. John’s Wort, Ginkgo Biloba, or any other blood-thinning supplements at least 1 week prior to treatment. These can also increase the risk of bruising.

    24 Hours Before Treatment

    • Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

    Day of Treatment

    • Arrive with Clean Skin: Please arrive at your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face to ensure optimal results.

    • No Sunburn: Avoid sunburn or tanning for at least 24 hours before your treatment.

  • After your neurotoxin treatment, following these instructions will help you achieve the best results and avoid potential complications:

    Immediately After Treatment

    • Avoid Touching the Treated Area: Do not massage or apply pressure to the treated areas. This could cause the neurotoxin to migrate to unintended areas.

    • Stay Upright: Remain upright for at least 4 hours after your treatment. This helps ensure the neurotoxin stays in place and does not migrate.

    • No Strenuous Exercise: Refrain from vigorous exercise or activities that could increase blood flow to the face (e.g., sauna, steam room, etc.) for 24 hours after treatment.

    Swelling & Bruising

    • Mild Bruising and Swelling: It is common to experience mild swelling or bruising at the injection sites. If this occurs, you may apply ice packs for 10-15 minutes every hour for the first few hours to reduce swelling.

      • Note: Bruising may last 3-7 days, but you can apply makeup once any initial swelling has subsided.

    Makeup and Skincare

    • You may resume makeup and skin care products 24 hours after treatment.

    • Avoid vigorous facial treatments (e.g., facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels) for 1 week following treatment.

    When Will You See Results?

    • Initial Results: You may begin to notice results in 3-5 days after treatment.

    • Full Results: Full effects are typically seen within 14 days.

    • Duration: Neurotoxin treatments generally last 3 months. Repeat treatments are typically recommended to maintain results. Many patients find it helpful to use their phone calendar to track when their next treatment is due, as it can help with determining the longevity of your treatment and planning for future appointments.

    • Follow-Up Appointments: We recommend a follow-up appointment 2 weeks after your treatment if you notice any asymmetry or require an additional touch-up.
