About Botox and Dysport

  • Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections that use a purified form of botulinum toxin to treat dynamic wrinkles—the lines caused by repeated facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, and smiling. A small amount of the neuromodulator is precisely injected into the underlying facial muscles, temporarily relaxing them. This softens and smooths the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and helping to prevent new ones from forming.

  • From a young age, we naturally make facial expressions that engage the muscles under our skin. When we’re younger, high levels of collagen and elastin allow the skin to bounce back easily. However, as we age, collagen production declines, skin loses elasticity and hydration, and expression lines begin to settle in more deeply. Over time, these lines can become permanent, contributing to a tired or aged appearance.
Neuromodulators address these concerns by targeting the underlying muscle activity that causes wrinkles—treating the root of the issue rather than just the surface.

  • While neuromodulators are generally safe and effective for most individuals, there are specific situations where treatment is not recommended. These contraindications help ensure patient safety and optimal results:

    1. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Neuromodulator injections are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, due to potential risks to the fetus or infant. Treatment should be postponed until after this period.

    2. Neuromuscular Disorders

Neuromodulators can worsen symptoms of certain neuromuscular conditions, such as:

    • Myasthenia Gravis

    • Lambert-Eaton Syndrome

    • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

    3. Active Skin Infections or Inflammation

Avoid injections if there is any infection, rash, or inflammation at or near the planned injection site. Treatment should be postponed until the skin has fully healed to minimize risk of complications.

    4. Certain Medications

Some medications can interact with neuromodulators, potentially increasing the risk of side effects. These include: some antibiotics and blood thinners

    Please Note:

If you have certain skin conditions or have recently undergone cosmetic procedures—such as chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling—you may be advised to delay your neuromodulator injections. Timing is important to avoid irritation or potential adverse effects.

As a general guideline, it’s best to wait at least 2 weeks before or after most cosmetic procedures before receiving neuromodulator treatment. During your consultation, we’ll review your treatment history and create a timeline that ensures the best and safest results.

  • Neuromodulators often yield even greater results when combined with skin-rejuvenating treatments that improve tone, texture, and elasticity. Be sure to explore our range of skin rejuvenation procedures to discover how you can achieve radiant, long-lasting transformation.
